Central Thailand / Kanchanaburi / Three Pagodas Pass

The Three Pagodas Pass lies between Thailand and Burma at the northernmost point of Kanchanaburi Province, near the town of Sangkhla Buri. The three small pagodas aren't in the best condition anymore but in their partially crumbled form they correspond well with the rough terrain. The pass is the only crossing between Burma and Thailand for many hundreds of kilometers and it has been for centuries the classic entry point for Burmese armies, out to conquer Thailand, or Thai armies, on their way to capture western Burmese cities such as Tenesserim and Tavoy. The Burmese side of the pass now is contested by Karen and Mon rebel armies as well Burmese government forces.
