So-called ascetic exercises during Phuket's Vegetarian Festival
From late
September to early October pious Chinese Buddhists in Trang
and on Phuket have a nine day period devoted to the consumption
of vegetables. It may not sound very festive to a beefeater but
they see it as a chance to earn merit and there are ceremonies
and processions at Chinese temples.
