Beaches / Weligama

On east-ward along the coast from Ahangama. This is the operating beat of the famous stilt fishermen of Sri Lanka. Palm trees leaning over to shade waves lapping at sandy bays forms the picturesque scenery on this drive. On the way is also Count de Mauny's estate on the rocky island of Gaduwa, converted into its remarkable mansion-garden by the French expatriate of 1930's. Weligama beach is 145 kms from Colombo on the Galle-Matara road.
