SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka / Health and Medical Services

A few sensible precautions that will ensure a healthy and happy sojourn in Sri Lanka. Try to avoid drinking water straight from the tap. Bottled water is readily available and if it is not a bottled cold drink or coconut water can be a safe substitute. Carry sunscreen, particularly if you intend to spend time on the beach and prickly heat powder in any case. Sri Lanka has its share of mosquitoes so it is a good idea to be equipped with a mosquito and insect repellant and if prone to it, anti malarial prophylactics.

Sri Lankan pharmacies are pretty well stocked with a fairly wide range of allopathic medicines and as an alternative there are outlets for Ayurvedic medicine, the country’s indigenous health care system. Free medical and surgical services are provided in state owned hospitals everywhere in the country.
