Souvenirs
of Singapore can be found all over town, from tee-shirts to crockery
to local handicraft items. Singapore’s national flower, the orchid,
is celebrated in a number of unique ways. The orchid motif appears
on distinctive fashion garments and casual wear of all sorts.
Gold-dipped orchids are a popular buy. Real orchids are picked
and dipped in 22-carat gold, to be made into pins, earrings or
pendants. Gold bullion coins stamped with lion motifs also make
a valuable gift for family or friends. Fine modern pewterware
plus a good selection of mugs, vases and pictures, can be bought
at the Royal Selangor showroom at 32 Pandan Road.
For a selection
of unique Singaporean souvenirs, the Singapore Handicraft Centre
at Chinatown Point must be visited. From distinctive bamboo umbrellas
and topee hats to silk lingerie and printed tee-shirts, the centre
offers an abundant range and at reasonable prices too.
