Sexual opportunities in Asia

Version 1.0, July 2007

Like in much of the rest of the world, so in Asia, too, there has been, over the past three decades, a clear decline in both the quality and the quantity of sexual opportunities for men.

The Philippines were a very attractive sexual destination in the 1970s and early 1980s with a sexually active youth and a sexual legal framework that was not as biased against men as it is now. The Philippines were then probably the first country in Asia were the situation was then tightened rather quickly, with the "moral revolution" that followed the overthrow of President Marcos and the installation of President Cory Aquino.

Thailand also became much more moral over the past three decades. But in Thailand, it was not only, and not so much, the political climate that changed. Thailand, over the past three decades, always was primarily a prostitution destination. While prostitution never was the kind of sex I was interested in, I have to admit that in the1970s and 1980s, many prostitutes in Thailand, for example Pattaya, were strikingly beautiful. But now when I visit Pattaya, which I rarely do, my impression is that it's still the same girls around as in the 1970s and 1980s, only that they are no longer beautiful.

In Indonesia, change occurred later. Not only was Suharto capable of hanging on much longer than Marcos. A sexual climate that was comparable to that of the Philippines in the early 1980s persisted in Indonesia until the end of the 1990s. And the anti-sexual changes after the overthrow of Suharto were comparable to the changes in the Philippines after the overthrow of Marcos.

Among these changes were, in both countries, and also, more gradually in Thailand:

1. Extended legislation to protect women, such as putting into effect a higher age of consent.

2. Outlandishly strict punishment for sexual misdeeds. Torturing and killing a male gets less than half the punishment of sexual intercourse with a female which later is construed as rape or statutory rape.

3. A media which is inclined to always find fault with men, especially if they are foreigners.

But the news is not all bleak. China, in particularly, is a country that is getting better sexually. However, China is huge, and the differences between regions, as far as sexual opportunities (and the beauty of women) are concerned, are substantial.

Is the north better or the south? Will you fare better in big cities where women are more modern, or in the countryside, where they are more traditional?

Is it better to chat up girls at universities or in pubs? Or how about Internet dating?

Or, in spite of the negative development in the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia, are these countries still the better option? Or how about the countries so far not mentioned in this article: Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar?

The people who maintain this site provide unique lifestyle advice: where to go in Asia for optimal relationships of sex and love.

And mind you: we are not talking prostitutes. Actually, men who like to have sex with prostitutes don't need much info... just a few hints where to find them and what they cost. Those who need that kind of hints for their low-quality sexual stints can check the World Sex Guide and other banality boards of the same kind.

What we deal with, on the other hand, is supreme sex in love relationships. You can read about it in the member articles, but that is not all. As a member you are also entitled to qualified email advice. Let us know what you are looking for in your life in Asia, and we will tell you were you have the best chance to succeed.

Your other option is to save the 200 euro a membership will cost, and instead waste months and years looking for the right places. For whether you succeed or not has a lot to do with where you go.
