Qatar
has had its own national carrier Qatar Airways since 1994
Qatar Airways offers daily non-stop flights to a number of useful
destinations - notably London (carefully timed to meet connections
both within Britain and overseas), Munich (with strong central
European connections), Bangkok and Kathmandu. Additionally, several
flights are operated daily to other Gulf destinations, such as
Dubai and Abu Dhabi. All in all, around 80 flights per week operate
to and from Doha to about 20 destinations.
A number of other airlines operate to and from Doha, and 1998
has seen the welcome return of both British Airways and KLM, both
of whom suspended flights to Qatar for a while. This is a reflection
of the increased volume of passenger travel, boosted by the influx
of expatriates working in the oil and gas industry.
Both airlines offer excellent connections to the USA, in addition
to a host of British and European destinations. Gulf Air has been
operating successfully in Qatar for a number of years (Qatar is
still a co-owner of the airline) and offers an alternative for
routes to Europe, in addition to many Far Eastern destinations.
