Leftist political parties traditionally are associated with progressive, pro-sexual, anti-religious, science-oriented politics.
Unfortunately, leftist political parties also are associated with increased government involvement in many aspect of life.
I am in favor of many positions held traditionally by leftist parties. I am pro-sexual and anti-religious. But I don't want more state involvement in my private life. I want less of it.
Like me, many others who share the above-cited ambivalence do not have a political home.
In the US, I would be anti-Republican because I am anti-religious and pro-sexual. I would be anti-Democratic because I do not want more state regulation; I want less.
The political homelessness is practically the same anywhere in Europe.
In the US, the fact that people don't vote for the Democrats because they do not want more government, heavily plays into the hands of the Republicans. And the Republicans use this advantage not just to reduce government involvement (which they anyway don't do a great deal of), but to push a Christian fundamentalist and anti-sexual agenda.
A new leftist political movement is needed that combines both, a program of a maximum of personal freedom, and a progressive, anti-religious, pro-sexual agenda.
