Philippines / West Mindanao / Transportation

Land Transportation

The most important bus terminal in Zamboanga is at Veterans Ave corner Governor Camins Rd, out of the city; buses go frequently (mostly in the morning) to Pagadian. From there are connections to Ozamiz, Dipolog, Iligan and Cagayan de Oro.

There is an hourly ferry service from Ozamiz to Kolambugan and Tubod (last trip 17:00) where buses wait at the pier.

Roads in western Mindanao have a poor reputation - and not just that, as the locals are quite afraid of bandits. Most people prefer to take ships or fly, and the same is recommended to foreign visitors.

Flights

PAL has two flights daily between Zamboanga and Manila. Other connections between western Mindanao and Manila exist only via Cebu City.

There are one or two flights daily between Zamboanga and Cebu City, and additionally flights between Cebu City and Ozamiz (daily), Dipolog (three times a week) and Pagadian (four times a week).

Because road transportation is nothing less than lousy, and ship travel isn't much better, there are in western Mindanao more flights within the region than in any other part of the Philippines. There are connections between Zamboanga and Jolo (twice a day), Tawi-Tawi (daily), Pagadian (four times a week), Cotabato (five times a week), Davao (three times a week) and Dipolog (four times a week).
