The Museo
Iloco in front of the Basilica and the Imelda Park with a nice
bamboo tree house nearby were worth seeing. However, all of these
structures as well as the entire commercial center of the town
were heavily damaged by the earthquake of July 16, 1990. The black
sand beach about 3km (2mi) out of town is not the best by itself
but the waters there are good for wind surfing and sailing.

Much destruction
was wrought by the quake of July 16, 1990 in the stretch between
Agoo and Balaoan. The 103year old church of St Lucy parish in
Aringay collapsed and St Nichole's Church, built in 1787, in Balaoan
was destroyed.
