The only
bamboo organ in the world can be viewed in San Jose church (constructed
1797 to 1819) in Las Pinas. The organ was built by the Spanish
Priest Diego Cera from 1816 to 1824. To make the bamboo elastic
it was kept in wet sand for several months. The organ consists
of 832 bamboo pipes and 121 metal pipes, has 22 registers and
a five octaves manual. The organ was completely renovated in 1973,
in West Germany. Once a year, there is the week long Bamboo Organ
Festival during which world famous organists play the instrument.
