The place lies to the east of Mardan at a distance of 65 kms, on the right bank of the river lndus. It was called UDABHANDAPUR, "The Upper Village'. Hund occupied great importance as a silk route slatiort between China and India. Alexander the Great crossed the river Indus at this point in 327 BC. on his way to India. Hund remained for a period of 300 years as capital during the Hindu Shahi dynasty.

One ot the most celebrated Chinese historian Hsuan Tsang writes about Sin-Tu (river lndus) as clear. rapid but poisonous and an abode of dragons and evil spirits which rarely spare those who carry rare gems and the most celebrated flower sutras. Akbar the Great also built a fort here to keep this area undercontrol.
