Manang / Mustang / The Place
Manang
is a high valley located north of the Annapurna range. It is accessible
only by foot trails along Muktinath or along the Marsyandi river
in Lamjung. The route to Manang involves the deepest gorge in
the world and the Thorung-La pass.
Mustang is located beyond the Himalayan range in the Tibetan plateau.
It is called the "Forbidden Land" due to difficult terrain and
the harsh climate. The capital of Mustang is Lo Manthang located
near the Tibetan border. It is a fortified city that houses the
King's palace and monestaries.
