Rabat / Attractions / Mohammed V Mausoleum

A stone's throw from the Hassan Tower, but separated by many centuries, stands the Mohammed V Mausoleum, the construction of which began in 1962. This sultan led Morocco to independence and the country built a sumptuous monument to him to express its gratitude. No less than 400 craftsmen were employed in the building of this splendid edifice. The exterior comprises a magnificent white 4 marble pavilion surmounted by a roof of green tiles.

Inside, the exquisitely crafted burial chamber contains the white onyx tomb which stands on a slab of granite that is so highly polished, it is like a mirror. The Mohammed V Mausoleum is open to the public.
