('zhe' in the fourth tone)

There are some 30 standard Chinese characters that have a 'zhe' pronunciation. Sound-indicating components are: 圻 (6 occurences), 者 (4)

这 = this

Very commonly used. When standing alone, it should be combinded with 个 = ge.

'Which one do you want?' - 'This one!'

这个 = zhe(4)ge(-) = this one

But in sentences, just 这 will do as subject. Sentence structures with 这 in the function of a pronoun use 是.

这是你昀吗? - Zhe(4) shi(4) ni(3de(-) ma(-)? = Is this yours?

Not：这个你的吗? = Zhe(4)ge(-) ni(3)de(-) ma(-)?
