('sou'in the first tone)

There are 16 standard Chinese characters that are spoken 'sou'. More than ten of them contain the following character as sound-determining element: 叟 = sou(3) = old man

搜 = to search

But the single-character version is seldom used. On the other hand, the following two-character version is common= sou(1)suo(3) = to search (used for Internet searches on the Chinese sites of both Google and Yahoo)
