There are some 145 standard Chinese characters
with a 'ji' pronunciation, which makes 'ji' one of the most used sounds in
spoken Chinese, and puts in into one league with 'shi' and 'yi'. Major
sou.nd-indicating components are: 几 (11 occurences), 及 (11), 齐 (9)
The most frequently encountered 'ji'
morphemes are listed below.
Only two are common in the third tone,
but they are the most common 'ji' sounds:
几 = ji(3) = how many, a few
己 = ji(3) = oneself
More are common in the first tone:
机 = ji(1) = machine, opportunity
击 = ji(1) = to strike
垃圾 = la(1)ji(1) = trash
鸡 = ji(1) = chicken
The largest number of common 'ji' morphemes is
spoken in the fourth tone:

The second tone is not so important for 'ji'
