('hao' in the third tone)
There are some 29 standard Chinese characters with a 'hao' pronunciation. A
major sound-indicating component is 高 , with six occcurences, even though as a independent
character, 高 is spoken ‘gao’, not ‘hao’.
The most common 'hao' words are:
好 = hao(3) = good
号 = hao(4) = number, date of a
month
好 = hao(3) = good
This word has many more functions that just as
adjective meaning ‘good’. For example, adding 好不好 (literally ‘good no good’) at the end of a
sentence turns this sentence into a question, starting, in English, with: Would
you like to... ?
陪我去逛街好不好? = Pei(2) wo(3) qu(4)
guang(4) jie(1) hao(3) bu(4) hao(3)? = Wouild you like to go for a walk with
me?
