('gong' in the fourth tone)

There are 27 standard Chinese characters that are spoken 'gong'.  The character 工 is present in eight of them. However, 工 is also a radical in many characters that are not spoken 'gong', so it's prsence in any more complicated character is not a sure indication that this character is spoken 'gong'.

On the other hand, there are two other simple 'gong' characters, 公 and 共, which, when integrated in more complicated characters, area clear indication that such a character is spoken 'gong'.
