GAN-3
('gan' in the third tone)
There are two independent characters
which, when integrated into more complicated characters, function as
sound-determining elements: 干 and 甘.
感 = to feel
This character is a combination 咸 = xian(2) =
salty, with 心 = xin(1) = heart. A character similar to 咸 is 成 = cheng(2) = to
become, to succeed
When just used as the verb 'to feel', the
two-character version is used:
感到 = gan(3)dao(4)= to feel as in 'to feel cold', 'to
feel happy'
感冒 = gan(3)mao(4) = a cold, the flu
Usual form:
感冒了 = gan(3)mao(4)le(-) = have a cold
In Chinese, to express that one is not
interested, 感 is used in the following structure.
我不感兴趣 = Wo(3) bu(4)
gan(3) xing(4) qu(4) = lit. I not feel interest
感动 = gan(3)dong(4) = be
touched
很高兴也很感动你... = hen(3) gao(1)xing(4)
ye(3) hen(3) gan(3)dong(4) ni(3)... = very glad and (also) very touched that
you...
