GA-1
('ga' in the firsttone)
Even though the Chinese language assembles all meanings
from just around 400 morphemes, the great majority of which consists of an
initial consonant, followed by a single or double vowel, some possible
combinations of an initial consonant plus a single or double vowel are hardly
used. This is the case for the initial sound 'g'. The only really common
originally Chinese word with the initial 'g' is 给 = gei(3) = to give, for. The initial 'g' followed by
'a' is used in some loan words.
咖喱 = ga(1)li(2) = curry
The mouth radical before 加 and 厘
indicates that the character is a sound approximation.
