Korea
/ Southwestern Region / Mt. Chirisan
The first
national park in Korea, is the second highest mountain next to
Mt. Hallasan on Chejudo Island. It is vast in size and its peaks,
including the 1,915-meter-high Ch'onwangbong, stretch across three
provinces; Chollanam-do, Chollabuk-do and Kyongsangnam-do.
This is a
majestic mountain but it is advisable that only climbers with
proper moun tain-climbing equipment and plenty of experience should
attempt to hike to the peaks in this area.
With streams
running through thick virgin forests and a sea of clouds covering
the peaks of the mountain, Mt. Chirisan offers magnificent scenery.
The foot of the mountain is dotted with many Buddhist temples
including Hwaomsa Temple and many remains of the past.
