Southeast of downtown Kwangju, hovers over the city like a guardian. It is famous for its watermelon (Mudungsan - subak)and for Ch'unsol tea.

The Ch'unsol tea, or spring snow tea, is made out of the soft buds which emerge from the snow in early spring.

Other minor islands and islets of the group include the Pescadores , Green Island, and Orchid Island among others; as well as the Diaoyutai Islands which are controlled by Japan since the 1970s and known as the Senkaku-shoto.
