KOREA

Korea / Central Region / Kongju

The capital of the ancient Paekche Kingdom from A.D.475 to 539, when it was moved south to Puyo. The kingdom fell when the Shilla Kingdom unified the Korean Peninsula in the 7th century.

Many remains of Paekche's former glory are well preserved in these two old capitals.

The word Chon originates from the Sanskrit word Jala meaning water, and the word buri from Sanskrit Puri meaning town or city.
