This monument was commissioned by Brunei Shell Petroleum, and was designed by a local architect. It commemorates the production of billionth barrel of oil by the Seria oldfield and stands near the seawall.

Because it produces ascospores within saclike asci, Claviceps is placed in the fungal Class Ascomycetes.
