Beijing – Ulan Bator connections

The direct trains between Ulan Bator and Beijing take 30 hours. I am not in favor of train journeys that take 30 hours. The Ulan Bator – Beijing connection is a distance that I recommend to be covered as two legs.

So, where are the best breaking points? What is the best place to stay overnight?
